CAMO 45

“When the powerful sit, they are none the weaker.”

African Proverb

Inspired by a photograph of the Artist’s grandmother wearing the distinctive headscarf of the Kenyan Women’s Guild, Camo 45 wraps a piece of fabric around the model’s hair in the same way. Identified by its blue headscarf wrapped around a member’s hair, the Kenyan Women’s Guild is a hundred year old religious institution that is well known around the country. It is a gathering of female community under the Pentecostal Church- and the Artist’s grandmother was a member for many years.

The orange “earrings” in the look were crafted from a hair claw-clip adding a pop of vibrance to the black and white houndstooth weave of the fabric which from a distance seems to be a simple interlacing but on closer inspection holds slashes of movement and energy in the true Camo concept: an illusion camouflage that becomes distinct when up close.
